Education support organization, Kwera, on June 1, 2024 donated 20 desktop computers to the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST and 82 laptop computers to the university’s students who are under the Kwera’s student climbers’ project.

Kwera learning advisor, Emmanuel Banda, said in this digital age, computers are part of modern education, especially at university level hence the need for students to have access to them.

“Apart from supporting the students in their assignment writing, and research, the computers will also help them in their Kwera run skills development programme. For MUST, we hope the computers will help to extend the reach of our support beyond the Kwera beneficiary students as these will be utilized by lecturers and the wider MUST student community,” said Banda.

Speaking on behalf of MUST management, Administration Manager Emmanuel Chizinga thanked Kwera for the support, saying it will help the university in its digital expansion.

“We are really very thankful to Kwera for the support to both the students and the university. As MUST we do help students with gadgets but many are not reached out. In modern day education, a computer is a necessity for a student,” he said.

Chizinga also urged Kwera to extend the support beyond generic students by considering those studying under Open and Distance E-Learning (OdeL) and also those under mature entry, saying they are equally in need.

“You also talked about targeting 600 students in the coming year, please ensure that MUST is considered in that number because most of our students are need of such support,” said Chizinga.

One of the beneficiary students, Ropafazo Kwindani, thanked Kwera and its partners for mobilising the computers and urged his fellow students to ensure that the gadgets are used for their intended purpose and that they should take good care of them to ensure safety and longevity.
